Capture Is Now 100%

In response to Confessions of a Culinary Elf: Your Chicken Needed Cheese, Carolyn wrote back with another challenge:

“Well, America’s Test Kitchen doesn’t work at all with the Cook’n extension. Then, when I bring up the recipe in Snip-It, once I log into ATK, I try to highlight the various sections, it doesn’t. Won’t.

I finally was able to use the clipboard capture on this one — so far as I compare it to the original I think it did it correctly. I’ll send you others as I encounter them. I have a good, newer computer with tons of RAM, so it should work fine. Will keep you posted.

If you want to try it, the recipe I was trying to capture was Stuffed Turkey Thighs with Gravy.

Challenge accepted.

But here’s the fun part.

Try again.

Why?

Because something big changed a few days ago.

🚀 Capture Just Got an Upgrade

We quietly rolled out a major enhancement to the Cook’n Capture service.

Here’s what now happens behind the scenes:

  1. You click Capture.
  2. If the website is properly structured, we grab the recipe instantly.
  3. If the website is NOT structured correctly…
  4. The Cook’n Elves automatically switch to Elf Magic mode and extract it anyway.

That means:

  • If normal Capture works → great.
  • If normal Capture fails → Elf Magic jumps in automatically.

No extra steps required.

💥 What Does That Mean?

It means our Capture service now has a 100% success rate.

Yes. Really.

We are even successfully capturing recipes from sites like:

  • America’s Test Kitchen
  • Paywalled recipe sites
  • Oddly formatted food blogs
  • Pages that previously failed completely

Our customers say “jump” and we say “how high?” 😂

🧠 Why It Might Have Failed Before

If you tried a site like America’s Test Kitchen recently, it may not have worked.

That’s because:

  • Some recipe sites are behind login walls
  • Some do not use proper structured markup
  • Some hide recipe data in complex formatting

In the past, that could block Capture.

Not anymore.

If Capture Failed Before…

If Capture failed before, please try it again.

The Elves may have just learned a new trick.

Carolyn, thank you for continuing to test us and keep us on our toes. We genuinely appreciate it.

And to everyone else: If you ever hit a recipe that doesn’t Capture correctly, try again.

The Elves have been busy.

Happy Cooking,
Dan
