Goodbye Manual Sorting: Elf Magic Takes Over Chapter Selection

Dan,
My compliments! With Version 16, it seems that I am finally able to click on the strawberry icon, then select Capture to Desktop, and it actually puts the recipe into the proper category just about all the time. There have been a couple of instances where the Cook'n chefs put the recipe in a different chapter, but I could see it in real time and just move it as needed. Overall, I am quite pleased. During all the years I've been using Cook'n, a recipe always seemed to go into the last place I had visited. I just knew that I would need to go into "Potatoes" (as an example) and usually I would find the recipe and then manually drag it into where I wanted it. Very odd! In fact, one time I actually set up a chapter called Downloads, but for some reason that didn't always work either. I gues it liked Potatoes more than Downloads. Well Done!

Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. Your note honestly made my day.

I especially love the fact that you mentioned “Potatoes” again… that chapter has become legendary around here. 😄

What you may not realize is that your remote session was actually the inspiration for this new Elf Magic behavior. When I saw how easy it was to miss the chapter selector during Capture, it really hit me that Cook’n should simply do that thinking for you. That’s exactly what Elf Magic is now doing behind the scenes.

Just as a quick reminder (in case it’s helpful): even with Elf Magic turned on, you can still manually choose the chapter after clicking Capture and before clicking Save. The chapter selector is still there if you ever want to override what Elf Magic chooses. Most of the time it gets it right, but as you noticed, you can always adjust it in real time if needed.

I’m really glad to hear it’s working well for you overall, and I truly appreciate you sharing your experience. Feedback like yours is what helps us keep making Cook’n better.

Thanks again, Bob. And yes… I think Cook’n really does have a soft spot for Potatoes. 😉

Warm regards,

Dan
