She’s been working on this novel for over two years, and today marks a huge milestone. We’re so proud of her!

Here’s a peek at what’s on the inside cover:

Kathy Oaks, a devoted mother to five incredible children.

An avid writer, traveler, cook, and outdoor enthusiast, she seamlessly weaves her love for adventure into the pages of her novels. Yet, amid all these passions, there's one thing that holds a special place in Kathy's heart—gathered around the Sunday dinner table, engaging in spirited games and creating lasting memories with her family.

Join Kathy on a literary odyssey that resonates with the beauty of family, the thrill of discovery, and the joy of embracing life's passions.

So how did it all begin?

After reading the Twilight series, Kathy thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if there was a book that inspired faith and optimism while still being exciting and magical?” She wanted something that showed young people how to face life’s challenges with courage and hope.

And then she thought, “Maybe I should write it!”

She imagined a story about a teenage girl navigating her relationship with her parents, wrestling with difficult choices, and discovering her own power. And of course, she threw in a little magic, some supernatural forces, and a world inspired by today’s divided political climate.

At first it was just an idea. But then came the question: “If not me… then who? If not now… then when?”

And she got to work.

After hundreds of hours of writing, revising, researching, and listening to “how to write a novel” podcasts, Kathy finally crossed the finish line. The book is done. And it’s amazing.

(And yes… for the record, she imagined herself as Asha… and me as Cardan, the dashing prince. Haha. As for Thora? Well… maybe that was my high school girlfriend? 😂)

Needless to say, I’m incredibly proud of her. This was a lifelong dream—and she did it.

We’re both grateful to Vanguard Press and Pegasus Publishers for believing in her and bringing this story to life.

Could Cook’n Help You Write a Book, Too?

Believe it or not, Kathy says that Cook’n helped her write this book. Those Sunday dinners she mentioned? Full of love, food, laughter, and inspiration.

Gathering around the table, connecting with loved ones, sharing stories—that’s where the ideas sparked.

So here’s the real question:

What might your Sunday dinner gatherings inspire you to do?

We’d love to hear.
