Candied Walnuts


Serves: 5

Ingredients

1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
2 cups shelled nuts
salt (optional)

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly oil a baking sheet (or line with parchment paper) and set aside.

2. Combine the sugar and water in a small pan over medium-low heat. Cook the mixture while stirring for 10 minutes. Add the nuts, and continue to stir until the mixture begins to thicken and turn opaque.

3. Immediately spoon the sugar-coated nuts onto the cookie sheet. Using a fork, separate them into an even layer. Sprinkle lightly with salt, if using.

4. Bake for 10 minutes, then turn the nuts with a nonstick spatula. Cook another 10 minutes, or until the sugar has melted and the nuts are coated with brown sugary “syrup.” Remove immediately and let cool. Store in an airtight container.
