Old-Fashioned Baked Brown Bread


Serves: 8

Ingredients

1 cup molasses light
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 cups graham flour
2 cups buttermilk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 baking soda heaping
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup raisins

Directions:

In large bowl, stir all ingredients together, mixing well. Batter makes enough to fill 8 10 3/4 -ounce soup cans. Oil containers well and fill not quite 2/3 full. Bake in 350° oven for approximately 45 to 50 minutes. Test with a straw for doneness. Cool in containers for 10 minutes before removing to cake rack. Serve warm or cool with butter or margarine. This bread freezes well.

Note: The size loaf is ideal for slicing and spreading with cream cheese or your choice of spreads.
