Preheat oven to 350°. Cook the spinach according to the package directions. Drain, reserving 1/2 cup liquid. Sauté the onion in butter until soft. Blend in the flour. Slowly add the milk and spinach water stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook until smooth and thickened. Add the remaining ingredients except the bread crumbs. Pour into a 9-inch square baking dish and top with the bread crumbs. Bake 25 minutes.
