Kitchen Remedy: Salty as the Sea, fixing over-salted food

Serves: 5

Ingredients

Directions:

We have all done it! An over-salted dish, whether that's a gravy or stew, or even a soup. Here are a few tricks to remove the salty taste. I have heard that over salted food is the symptom of someone in love. Perhaps their head was in the clouds and the salt was added a few times?

Add a dash of lemon juice or honey. This method will balance out the saltiness.

Peel a large potato and cut it into chunks. Add the chunks to your dish and allow to cook. Remove potato after several minutes, but before it is soft. The potato will soak up some of the salt.

Add a starch or grain, pasta or rice, to soak up some of the salt and liquid. You may have to add more liquid in, and this may not work with the composition of all recipes. When adding more liquid to an already salty dish, be cautious with broths: they often have a richness, but are also high in sodium.

Double the recipe, but not the salt! By adding more of the ingredients, you lessen the degree of saltiness in the dish. It will dilute the taste of the salt.

If all else fails, just remind your special someone's that you must have been thinking of how much you love them and made a mistake.
