Easy Cherry Cobbler

Ingredients

1 (15-ounce) can tart red cherries
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups sugar, divided
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 Optional: vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Directions:

In a saucepan over medium heat, cook cherries with their juice until boiling; remove from heat. In a medium bowl, mix flour, one cup sugar, milk, baking powder and salt. Spread butter in a 2-quart casserole dish or in 4 to 6 one-cup ramekins; pour flour mixture over butter. Add cherries; do not stir. Sprinkle remaining sugar over top. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve warm, garnished as desired.
