A Little Alexa Mystery from Kelly M.

QUESTION:

"I've been using the Cook'n skill every day since it was first introduced. But, recently, on Amazon Echo Show I upgraded to the Alexa+ feature. The Cook'n voice prompt no longer works. She responds with "Sorry, that's not supported on this device". I checked that the skill was still enabled (it was) and even reinstalled the skill but the voice prompt still isn't working. HOWEVER, I can go to the skill in the Alexa App and launch the skill directly from the app to my Echo Show and that works normally. So the issue seems to be in the voice prompt only.

I could uninstall the Alexa+ update, but I rather like the new functionality that came as part of the upgrade. I don't know how many people with the Echo Show upgraded to the Alexa+ so maybe I'm the only one experiencing this problem. If that's the case, there's no need to fix a problem for one person. If the Cook'n skill is no longer being developed or supported let me know and I'll revert to the old Alexa.

This isn't a burning issue. I can still use Cook'n on my other devices, so I'm not really horribly impacted. I mostly just wanted to let you guys know.

Thanks for getting back to me."

ANSWER:

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this! I had one of our programmers test the Cook’n Skill on Alexa+ with an Echo Show, and everything worked perfectly in our tests. Since we can’t reproduce the problem on our end, it might be something unique to your specific setup.

Sometimes, Alexa voice recognition quirks can be fixed by slightly changing the way the command is spoken (for example, “Alexa, open Cook’n” instead of “Alexa, start Cook’n”), or by doing a full device restart.

We appreciate you sharing your experience — even when something’s just a “heads-up.” Feedback like this helps us keep an eye out for trends and make sure Cook’n works great for everyone.

Thanks again,
Dan
