If you’ve ever found the Cook’n Newsletter a little hard to read, you’re not alone. Good news—we’ve made some improvements to the design to make it easier on the eyes!

We updated the color scheme and font style to increase contrast and enhance readability. Hopefully, that makes your time with us just a little more comfortable—and enjoyable!

The Feedback That Sparked It All

This idea didn’t come from me. I’m on a texting thread with two former employees: David Jones and Andy Hunt. David has been making some great suggestions lately, and he sent me this message:

Also, since you haven’t asked me to mind my own business yet 😊, I wanted to throw out a suggestion to retire the colors in the Cook'n Newsletter. Both of these colors fail online contrast checkers, and having elements fail that affect accessibility and usability can affect SEO ranking. More importantly, your audience probably skews a little older. If they’re having a hard time reading, they’ll just stop. I even had a hard time reading the articles because of the font and the contrast. Just a thought. #loveCook’n 😊

Cue the Banter

Since Andy was on the thread too, I replied:

But wait…Andy designed these newsletter web pages. Why would he choose a font and color combo that’s hard to read?

Andy took the jab in stride and fired back:

What can I say… sometimes you get what you pay for 😉

Then he added:

I’m not sure what fonts and colors we’re talking about here, but I always had a nice Apple MacBook with a clear screen and good contrast. It wasn’t easy to put myself in the shoes of a 1024 x 768 monitor with the zoom turned up 🙂

To which I replied:

You were disadvantaged by having such a sweet piece of equipment. 😂

Relationships That Last

It’s fun to chat with these guys. They’re great! I’m so glad we’ve maintained such a strong friendship over the years. And I love that they still read the Cook’n Newsletter and care enough to help us improve. Their feedback made a real difference.

We’d Love Your Feedback!

So… what do you think?
Do you like the new look and feel?
