Inviting Spring Into Your Kitchen- No Matter the Weather!

It’s snowing outside as I write this. Well, I’m ready for spring, even if the weather isn't! While I may not be able to enjoy a spring stroll through the orchards, I can certainly invite the spirit of spring in my kitchen!

A flower snack platter is so simple to put together, but is just so cheerful. Meagan at BakerMama.com is such an inspiration to me. She has several great ideas, not least of which is an adorable flower platter in her book, Beautiful Boards. I’ve created a few of my own versions, simply by organizing fruit and snacks in the shape of a flower. It always elicits giggles of delight from my children, and it’s so easy to do! It can definitely bring some spring cheer on a cold and gray day!

A vase of fresh flowers does wonders. Whether it’s sunny and beautiful or snowy and dreary outside, having a vase of beautiful fresh flowers at my table just lifts my mood. It adds a little beauty to my kitchen, and makes me feel like an amazing homemaker. And you don’t have to stick to just vases! There are so many creative ways to incorporate flowers- a pretty wreath, a lovely centerpiece, a garland for your kitchen cabinets.

Art is another great way to embrace spring. I have a frame hanging in my kitchen and every month I switch out the art inside to match the month. I love having flowers and springy things this time of year! If you have a magnetic fridge, a couple drawings of flowers from your children or grandchildren would certainly bring a smile on a dreary and gray day!

You can also serve food that is light and fresh. Soup is so heavy and perfect for fall and winter- but once it starts getting sunny and warm I crave all the salads and fruit! Serve a colorful fruit salad, or even a fruit pizza for dessert. Salads are a great complement to any meal, or make a great meal themselves with some added protein! I also think fruity drinks go great with spring meals! Homemade punch or smoothies would be delicious!

This is also the time to bring out all your colorful dishes! Any way you can bring in a little color is a great way to brighten your kitchen for the spring season. If you don’t own colorful dishes and don’t have money in the budget to get some, colorful napkins or a pastel tablecloth can add to the springy ambiance you're trying to create in your kitchen.

However you choose to embrace the spring season, I hope you’re able to enjoy it, no matter the weather!
