My Mother’s Best Recipes

Isn't it so appropriate that Mother's Day is in the spring? Spring is the season of new life and all things wholesome, and what a great time to celebrate mommies! Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there!

That beautiful woman next to me is my mom. This particular Mother's day I am feeling especially grateful for her. She is currently expecting her 10th child- I know, right?!? I feel like I am barely hanging on being pregnant with my 3rd, but she truly is a superhero. I didn't even know half the stuff that comes with being pregnant because my mom was never one to complain- it was only after asking if she had experienced some of the things I am going through that I found out she had experienced it all- but she kept her head up and stayed strong and is an amazing example of courage to me.

My mother is the hardest worker I know- she can out-clean or out-work anybody- I'm not joking! That woman can go and go and go;). When my little family moved out of our first apartment when I was pregnant with my 2nd, she scrubbed the sinks and floors until everything looked new- the landlord was shocked at how clean our place was! She also works hard to take care of herself physically. She eats well (and enjoys a treat every once in a while;) ). She works out every day- even when she's pregnant;). She is an amazing ball of energy that is hard to beat!

She is also one of the most generous and serving people I know. Not a week goes by that she isn't making bread for someone or taking a meal to a family or volunteering to clean our church building or helping out at the school or doing something that is not required of her- but she does it anyway to serve. She understands that no matter how busy or tired you are, there is always someone that is in greater need, and she takes care of all those around her.

I have a much deeper respect for my mother, now that I am one myself. I have always loved and appreciated my mother, but those feelings increased exponentially when I became a mother and realized all the time and emotion and sacrifice that is involved. I am so grateful for my mom and everything she does for her family and all those around her.

And because we love food around here;), I thought I would share a couple of my favorite recipes I got from my mother- because she also happens to be the BEST cook I know- and I'm not just saying that! Many a neighbor and friend have enjoyed her treats and goodies- and they can back me up;). These are a couple of her iconic recipes that she is known for in the neighborhood;).
