Last-Minute Mother's (And Father's) Day Gifts

Mother’s Day is Sunday (or was, depending on when you’re reading this. But remember, it’s never too late give a gift to your mother and tell her you love and appreciate her!) Father’s day is next month. (But remember, it is never to early to give him a gift and tell him you love and appreciate him! Or at least to start planning ahead).

Making or buying a gift shouldn’t be stressful. It should be thoughtful. It should show them how much you love them.

There are many ways to do it. Don’t focus as much on expense. Think about what you can give them that will truly show how much they mean. Saying "I love you" is definitely something that would be appreciated.

Another thing I love about the slow cooker is that if you plan it right, you may often have leftovers. Double-whammy time-saver! Leftovers are heaven-sent. They take even less prep and planning than a slow-cooker. If you can plan your meals to make at least double what you need (and maybe make a little more for your lunch), you'll find time you didn't know you had.

My dad always says that his favorite gift is a card. Give that a try. Not just a store-bought card with a funny saying. (Although those are fun, too, as long as they’re kind.) Write a card, well-thought out. Let them know what you are grateful for, the lessons they taught you, the happiness that has come from being their children. (You can even give this to mother or father-like figures that have influenced your life). Think of someone and brighten they’re day.

But, it’s always fun to do something a bit creative, too. (Many of these are interchangeable between mother and father. Do what you need to do.)

1. Collage

This one is so basic yet so wonderful. Grab a bunch of photos you know you're mom or dad will love. Mainly: their family, their grandkids, etc. Make it as fancy or as simple as you want. Just let them know they are the reason those pictures exist.

2. Coupons

No one is EVER too old for coupons! I love this one because it is so simple to put together, but the thought that can go into it is extensive. Some examples are:

  1.   Double date with us (we pay!)
  2.   A box of chocolates (a great way to give them a gift if you have no time to go to the store or are waiting to be paid)
  3.   A Girl’s Night Out
  4.   Daddy/Daughter date (this doesn’t just have to be for children)
  5.   Homemade dinner brought to your door.

The key to the coupons is to keep it service minded. Focus on them.

3. Generations picture

This is a cool idea no matter how many generations there are. What a fabulous shot that will help parents see their legacy.

4.Last of all, there is the gift of forgiveness.

I’m sure we could all think of something we want to blame our parents for. But please remember, no one is perfect! And we all have our own responsibility to make our own choices. Even if there has been no apologies, FORGIVE. A huge burden will not just be lifted from them, but it will most of all be lifted from you. Forgive.

Just an ending note, if you’re mother or father has passed on, don’t forget them. Visit their graveside and let them know how much you love them. Forgive them if needed. I am sure they will hear you.
