A Winter Tablescape

Every year when looking toward Christmas, I try to think about what would make this holiday special, memorable and unique. I get overwhelmed trying tons of new recipes and re-creating my menu and shopping list, so one thing I try to do is make my tablescape extra fun! This winter themed tablescape is pretty simple, not too expensive and a big impact with the color and contrast.

To start, use white butcher paper as a base for the tablecloth. I think this tablescape looks really nice and has a crisp fancy look, but without the expensive linens and more importantly, without the laundry! Once the meal is over you can simply toss it! Your younger guests could even bring crayons to the table if you’re into that!

Next, you can source or easily make some red buffalo plaid napkins. These are a classic print that will always be in style, and being red and black they add some color and contrast to your table. If you can find these in the store that makes it easy and great, but if not don’t be discouraged. You could find this fabric online at fabric.com or probably in store at Joann, and just cut them to size and hem them up! A little effort for a big payoff!

The centerpiece greenery is so natural and festive. You can often get Christmas tree clippings for free at Home Depot or other lots around town. This is a simple project that can be done with free and cheap supplies. Collect some pine cones, some bright red berries and any other greenery you desire. Thin out your Christmas tree branches to your desired shape, and then wrap wire around the base of the additional pieces you’ll add. Just tie the berries and pine cones onto the base greenery and you’ll be done in no time!

Add a few candles to the table, and use some unique glasses to set the mood! The final step is your place card or menu atop the buffalo plaid napkin. Add a sprig of greenery for a little color and start snapping away! Your table will be worthy of photos galore and be set into the memory of your guests in attendance.

Let me know in the comments if you use this tablescape idea, or if you made any adjustments to it! Happy decorating and happy chats around your holiday table.
