Mt. Everest: Tsampa

Ingredients

1/4 cup water or soy milk
1 tablespoon margarine
1/2 cup roasted barley flour
salt and sugar to taste

Directions:

AT CAMP:
1. Boil liquid then pour into bowl.

2. Add margarine and stir.

3. Add flour and mix by hand until dough forms.

4. Add sugar.

5. Add flour and mix until there are no lumps.

6. Add vanilla.

* Tsampa is quite simple to prepare; indeed, it is known as a convenience food and often used by sherpas, nomads, and other travelers. While traditional tsampa is prepared with tea, water or beer are sometimes used in its place. It may also be prepared as porridge.
