Year of Disney- 101 Dalmations and Cookies n’ Cream Puppy Chow!

We have another week of Disney for you- the last one before the baby comes! You’ll be reading this a few weeks after the fact, so hopefully by the time you’re actually reading this we’ll be back up and running with our weekly Disney tradition! Babies have a way of putting the rest of life on hold ;).

This week was 101 Dalmations, and I loved how much my 2 year old LOVED it. For the first 15 minutes he kept pointing excitedly at the screen every time there was a dog- which is pretty much the whole time! It really is such a cute movie and it was so enjoyable to watch!

Unfortunately, my daughter got exposed to COVID the day before our planned Disney day, so my in-laws opted to stay home, just in case. However, since they were planning on bringing the main dish, they sweetly offered to still bring it by, and I packed up plates for them with all the goodies I made, so it worked out. We can’t wait to have them join us next time!

For this dinner, I wanted to have as much black and white as possible, with a dash of red for Cruella. I’m also 38 weeks pregnant, so it needed to be fairly simple. And I’m thrilled with how everything turned out!

My mother-in-law used black food coloring to dye fettuccine noodles black and served it with her alfredo sauce. For this particular dinner I probably would have just done alfredo with roasted red peppers to keep with the color scheme, but I love my mother-in-law’s alfredo sauce, and I figured more veggies isn’t a bad thing! I was curious about how the noodles would turn out, but they totally worked!

Black noodles all the way. I think my kids were a little weirded out, to be honest. But at the end of the day, I think they realized it’s just noodles ;). I’m totally going to remember this for future Halloweens! Just be aware- the food coloring is really strong, so your alfredo sauce will turn grey/purple once you mix it with the noodles.

I decided another way to incorporate veggies would be to use cherry tomatoes. My 9 year old helped me put them on toothpicks with cubes of mozzarella cheese and olives. I love how they turned out, and my son thought they totally “looked like Cruella”. You can see a couple where my 4 year old decided to help too; my 9 year old was stressing that they looked different from the other ones, but I reassured him that they would taste just as good and it was totally fine ;).

I also made bone breadsticks again. Even though we made them with Lady and the Tramp, they were so cute and so tasty that I didn’t hesitate to use them again. Especially since we were having pasta for the main dish- breadsticks and pasta were just made to go together!

For a fun fruit dish, we made chocolate-covered strawberries. I used white almond bark, and once they were dry, my son helped me make little black spots using black decorating gel. I thought they turned out so cute! And my kids of course loved them!

For dessert, we made puppy chow! Or muddy buddies, if you call them that. Of course, if we’re going along with the movie, then we should call them Kanine Krunchies! Because I was trying to stick with a black and white theme, I decided to make a cookies n’ cream version of puppy chow. They were absolutely delicious! I’ve made them before, but it’s been awhile and I was reminded of just why they’re my favorite! We did a mix of white and milk chocolate, but next time I’m just going for all white. And trust me- you need to serve muddy buddies/puppy chow from the freezer. They’re WAY better. Just trust me on this.

Overall, another very successful Disney night. We just wish we could have had Grandma and Grandpa join us! But we made the best of the situation and we can’t wait to have them join us next time. In the meantime, go make this cookies n’ cream version of puppy chow and enjoy a movie night with your own family!

Cookies N' Cream Muddy Buddies

Addicting and delicious!

Serving size: 20
Calories per serving: 103

Ingredients:
5 ounces white chocolate chips
5 ounces milk chocolate chips
5 cups chex cereal
1 teaspoon shortening
Oreo's, (8 for crushing and some for putting pieces throughout)
1 cup powdered sugar

Directions:
Divide the chex cereal into two bowl. 2 1/2 cups in each.

In a food processor crush 8 oreos until fine. You can also crush in a gallon size bag with rolling pin.

In two gallon size bags, add 1/2 cup powdered sugar into each bag with 1/2 of the crushed oreos into each bag. (It was about 1/2 cup of crushed oreos.) Set aside.

Melt the white chocolate and milk chocolate in separate microwave safe bowls. Melt 30 seconds at a time with 1/2 tsp shortening in each stirring after each 30 seconds until melted.

Once melted, stir in the chocolate into the separate bowls with Chex cereal until the Chex are coated well with the chocolate.

Add the white chocolate and milk chocolate separately to the gallon sized bags with powdered sugar and crushed oreos and shake until they are coated. Then add some extra crushed pieces to the mixture at the end. Enjoy!

**I always add extra Oreos :) And I prefer nixing the milk chocolate and just doing all white! And they are SO much better from the freezer :)
