Mother's Day Gifts She'll Actually Use!

Mother’s Day is just a couple weeks away, and we definitely can’t forget about these important women in our life! Sometimes it can be hard to know exactly what to get our mothers for this special day- something sentimental? Something decorative? Something they need?

If there’s one area that’s almost always a safe bet, it’s the kitchen! What mother doesn’t spend at least some, it not most of her week in the kitchen? Anything that makes her experience in the kitchen more pleasant is definitely going to be a hit! Here’s some ideas to get you started:

Kitchen utensils. It’s hard to know exactly what your mother might appreciate the most, but there’s a few items it’s hard to go wrong with! A good set of measuring spoons (thin enough to fit in a spice container, magnetic, etc.) are always great to have on hand! A good quality spatula always gets me excited, and I really don’t feel that you can have enough! One of my favorite companies is Pampered Chef. While I don’t love all of their products, there are some I feel I couldn’t live without! Their Mix N’ Chop and Measure-All Cup are fabulous, and their Food Chopper is hard to beat!

Fun serving ware. This one you have to be careful with, because you don’t want to add to clutter, but if your mother is one who loves to entertain and set out nice dishes, she’ll probably really appreciate a big beautiful serving platter or a beautiful serving bowl to match! Pioneer Woman has some adorable floral items, but you can also stick with classic whites for a more elegant look. You know which one your mom might prefer ;).

Succulents. Yes, they’re trendy, but they also add a hint of green and life to your kitchen! It’s much more pleasant to spend time in a beautiful kitchen, then a dusty, boring one. If you don’t think your mom would love taking care of a living thing, go for a beautiful plaque or decorative piece- something that will bring a little more beauty into her busy and creative space!

Comfort items. If your mom’s going to spend time in the kitchen, she may as well be comfortable, right? They make some great mats that are cushioned and designed to make things a little more comfortable when you need to stand for longer periods of time- the perfect item to put by the kitchen sink to make dishes a little more bearable! You can also think outside the box- a CD player or a nice set of speakers she can hook up to her phone would be great to have if she loves listening to music or podcasts while she works!

The gift of service. What mother wouldn’t love to have her kitchen deep cleaned for her? Especially if your mother (or wife) has health problems, works all day, is currently expecting, etc, trust me when I say having someone gift a “coupon” to come scrub my kitchen down would be especially appreciated! My sweet mother-in-law suffers from arthritis and scleroderma, and whenever our gifts involve helping her with projects around the house they are always graciously appreciated.

Fill a need. You might not know exactly what your mom needs, so spend time in her kitchen with her, or if you’re short on time just raid her cupboards ;). Think of the items you LOVE or that you use frequently in your own kitchen, and investigate to see if your Mom could use one too! Silicone mats, Kitchenaid attachments, a nice can opener- the sky’s the limit!

Tablet stand. My husband got me a stand for Christmas to put my tablet on, and I love it! When I’m using my recipes from Cook’n, it’s so great to have them so accessible and easy to read! There are a ton of options out there, depending on if you want to be able to charge your device, use a stylus, customize the angle, etc.

Cook’n! We all love and use Cook’n, and if your mom (or another loved one) has yet to join the club, this would be a great gift! Meal planning, grocery shopping, calorie counting, cookbook creating- it’s all made much easier with the help of Cook’n ;).

Time. Honestly, some moms would just love to spend time with you. Let her teach you a classic family recipe, or spend time together making something new! Sometimes spending time together speaks louder than any gift could.

What else could you give your mother to make her life easier in the kitchen? I’d love to hear your ideas below!
