The Ten Loaves of Bread

I have never considered myself a real bread fanatic or bread snob by any means. I grew up on Wonder bread and that was great for me. Then, when I moved down to Utah in August of 2006 things changed when I tasted Grandma Sycamore's Home Maid Bread for the first time and I can never look back. If you live in Utah, Idaho, or now Nevada you know EXACTLY what I am talking about.

This bread could not be any more perfect. It is pretty dense and so incredibly soft and they actually don't use any preservatives in this bread at all. The owner and baker, Leland Sycamore, said, "The key that's made us successful is that we've gone back to old straight dough, no chemicals or preservatives and no dough extenders. What God created is what I put in it. And it must always be fresh. The bread is baked, shipped and sold within 15 hours."

Las Vegas is as far away as they will go to sell this bread to keep it fresh for the customers. If you don't live in these 3 states that sell it consider yourself lucky because once you have eaten this bread, your life will change forever. This bread is so incredibly superior to any other bread, anything after this point will just take like cheap, dry cardboard, believe me, I know.

I didn't know that this bread wasn't sold everywhere so when I moved to Iowa in 2013, I of course assumed they would have this bread. Oh boy was I wrong. In hindsight I sure feel like I took those blessed years of that bread for granted. I tried over 10 kinds of bread trying my hardest to find the closest thing to G-ma Sycamore's to no avail. The next best thing I have to settle for is Sara Lee bread. It's like trying to compare a popsicle to Haagen-Dazs ice cream.

I have tons of family members in Idaho and Utah so I have made a deal that whenever people visit my family they HAVE to bring several loafs of this bread in exact for a bed and our company :) They even did this when they drove 17 hours to visit us in Iowa, bless their hearts! Just this week my dear sister came to visit and brought 4 delightful loaves. They were gone in 3 days. Two weeks ago we went on a little vacation down to southern Utah and I had to stock up and buy 6 loaves. 5 of those loaves have been devoured and we've got one blessed loaf still sitting in the freezer. I think I will save it for when we are having a rough week and could use a pick-me-up. Nothing could do that quite like G-ma Sycamore.

That's 9 loaves of bread eaten in 3 weeks times, people! Nine! Now, to put it in perspective, I seriously never really eat bread on a daily basis. I buy probably only a couple loaves a month for my kids to have sandwiches. But once I got my hands on this bread, we were eating sandwiches at least twice a day. It takes any kind of sandwich like PB&J or a ham and cheese to a whole 'nother level. And don't even get me started on a grilled cheese with this bread. Mmmm mmmm good!

This is what the bread shelves look like in a grocery store. It's probably 90% Grandma Sycamore's.

When looking at their Facebook page, it was of course filled with all sorts of people begging them to bring bread to their area or people talking about stocking up on it on trips to Utah. One woman said, "I bought 20 loaves last time we were in Utah but are down to our last one." 20 loaves! I totally get it, lady! The struggle could not be more real.

Takeaways:

1. If you are on any type of low-carb diet, do NOT plan any vacations to these three states in the near future. Those goals will be obliterated once you taste this stuff. And not just during your visit but also for the following month as well since you will buy at least 10 loaves to bring back. And you might think to yourself, "Hmmm, do I have room in the freezer for about 8 loaves? Probably not." Think no further because your family will eat it up so fast you won't need to even think about freezing it, unless you have got some serious self-control and can ration it out.

2. If you live where it is sold, thank your lucky stars you live in this blessed area where you can enjoy it every day of your life, should you choose to.

3. If you don't live where it is sold, it is probably for the best as takeaway #1 could be the result.

I love you, Grandma Sycamore's Home Maid Bread!!!! I hope to see eat you soon!
