Can you believe that Thanksgiving is already here? I swear November has gone by so fast! It's time for family gatherings, fun, and of course tons of food. But what do you do when you're waiting for Aunt Bernice's famous green bean casserole to cook or while you're taking a break in between rounds of turkey? Why not gather the family and have a rousing round of trivia? I've Below I've provided you with some fun turkey time trivia! You can use it to entertain your guests, or as a way to get everyone involved. Make things really fun by offering a prize! I hope you enjoy the trivia and have a fantastic Thanksgiving!


  1. What year was the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade held?

    Answer: The first parade was held in 1924. Now each year a parade is held. It's always held in New York City.

    Bonus Question: What Peanut's character has had a balloon in the most Macy's Day Parades?

    Answer: Snoopy.

  2. Where did the tradition of making a wish on the wishbone come from?

    Answer: The Etruscans.

    Who/what are the Etruscans?

    Answer: An ancient civilization in Italy. The Etruscans believed that chickens, yes chickens, could predict the future, so when they cooked the chicken they would leave the wishbone out to dry. People would touch the bone and make a wish. The practice was passed on from generation to generation and spread worldwide!

    Double Bonus Question: What is the actual medical name of the wishbone?

    Answer: It is the furcula.

  3. How many feathers does the average turkey have?

    Answer: Between 3,000-3,500 feathers! (NOTE: any answer in between the two numbers is acceptable, because sources don't agree on an exact number.)

  4. How long did the first Thanksgiving last?

    Answer: Some sources say three days... That's a lot of mashed potatoes!

  5. When did Thanksgiving become a national holiday?

    Answer: Although it was celebrated many years before, Thanksgiving didn't become a national holiday until 1941.

  6. What is the Presidential Turkey Tradition?

    Answer: Each year the President pardons one turkey. George W. Bush once pardoned two named May and Flower.

  7. Americans eat roughly how many pounds of turkey each Thanksgiving?

    Answer: 535 million pounds! Let's do the math if each turkey sold weighs an average of 15 pounds and America consumes 535 that's...well, that's a lot of turkey!

  8. We all know that each year there is a Thanksgiving football game, what two teams played in the first Thanksgiving football games?

    Answer: Yale and Princeton in 1876.

  9. What is the earliest day that Thanksgiving could possibly land on?

    Answer: November 22.

  10. What is the latest day that Thanksgiving could possibly land on?

    Answer: November 28.
