Country Ribs With Apples And Kraut

3 pounds pork spare ribs, lean, country style, trimmed
1 16-ounce can sauerkraut, undrained
1 onion, thinly sliced and separated into rings
1 8-ounce can mushrooms, stems and pieces, drained
1 apple, cored and cut into wedges
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon celery seeds
Brown ribs in skillet on top of range over medium heat. Season with salt and pepper. Add to crockpot. Layer sauerkraut, onion, mushrooms, apple wedges and brown sugar over ribs. Sprinkle with celery seed. Cover and cook LOW for 7-9 hours or at HIGH for 3-4 hours until meat is tender.
