Avocado Toast Hathaway Style

My sister and her family of 6 came to visit us in our new home in California last week. Their flight was delayed and there were a few complications that affected my trip to our local Farmer’s Market. The way it worked out, I had to choose between getting 10 giant, ripe, creamy avocados for $8, or meeting them the minute they arrived. What would you have done? It was a tough choice, but I could not fathom hosting them for a week without having avocado on hand! We eat it with nearly every meal, and always avocado toast in the mornings. It is simple, delicious, and healthy too!

There are so many ways to prepare avocado toast and so many ingredients you can top it with to make this toast top notch. You can include various seasonings, vegetables, fruits and dressings.

For me, I like simple best. Here is how I do it:

  1. Start with your favorite bread. I like Dave’s Bread from Costco, and I LOVE Trader Joe’s sourdough the best! Toast this to golden, so it’s stiff enough to hold up your toppings.
  2. Now slice you avocado pretty thin, and as beautifully as possible if you care about looks!
  3. Arrange your avocado on the toast and sprinkle kosher salt over the top, as much as desired.
  4. Then, the most important step of all is to drizzle with balsamic glaze. I like the brands sold at Trader Joes and Costco.
  5. Finish with Everything But The Bagel seasoning from Trader Joes.

I hope you enjoy this staple as much as I do! Our family has it for breakfast, as an after school or church snack, and as a late night snack! I always keep sourdough bread in the freezer so the only fresh ingredient I need is avocado! Let me know in the comments if you make it and love it too!
