Betty's Signature At about the same time the persona of Betty Crocker was created to respond to the flood of requests for cooking advice from around the country, company officials realized that she would need to sign those letters somehow; a signature was needed! So a contest was held among the female employees of the Washburn Crosby Company (soon to become General Mills). The judges chose what they felt was the most distinctive and appropriate penmanship, and the winner was Florence Lindeberg.
