What Can You Serve With Your Favorite Christmas Movie?

Christmas is so close! We’ve been so busy this year with finishing our basement and other projects that I feel we’ve hardly had time to watch any Christmas movies. There are so many good ones! And of course, all the cheesy ones ;). It’s kind of become a tradition for my husband and I- Christmas Eve we always play one of the cheesy Christmas movies on Netflix and it plays in the background while we set up presents, fill stockings, eat cookies, all the good things. (Though this year, we don’t have Netflix, so we may have to find an alternative option!).

Anyway. I love watching Christmas movies with my family. And in my mind, an activity as simple as watching a show can be made so much better with food! It doesn’t have to be anything complicated- popcorn or muddy buddies is a great movie snack any day- but it sure is fun when you stick with a theme! Here are a few simple ideas to get you started.

Elf. This just might be my favorite. It would be so fun to serve the “four elf food groups”- candy, candy canes, candy corn- and syrup ;). You could serve with mini german pancakes or waffles cut into strips to make them easy to dip. Spaghetti with syrup might be a little much… but serving regular spaghetti for dinner would still be fun! And of course- the “World’s Best Cup of Coffee”, or hot chocolate for littles and non-coffee drinkers ;).

The Grinch. Whichever version is your favorite, the grinch is an easy one to incorporate! Think green and red hearts! Green cookies with red heart sprinkles. Green pancakes with red pancake cutouts. Use skewers to create mini-Grinches- a green grape for the head, a banana and strawberry slice for the Santa hat, and a marshmallow to top it off. The other great thing about the Grinch is you could pretty much serve anything and give it a Dr. Suess-y name! Meatloaf could be Who-hash, any meat could be Rare Who Roast-Beast, and of course, serve your favorite pudding for Who-Pudding to complete the “feast, feast, feast, feast!”

A Christmas Story. Another classic. You could be funny and serve peking duck ;). But even a turkey dinner would fit in with the theme just fine! Ovaltine is a must- or just hot chocolate renamed for the evening ;). You could also serve any small round treat (think Sixlets, chewy Sweet Tarts, Sugar Babies) and call them BB’s! Just don’t shoot your eye out ;).

Home Alone. Can you even watch this movie without eating a cheesy pizza? You could serve big ice cream sundaes for dessert to top it all off!

White Christmas. Another one of my absolute favorites. I’m not so sure I’d want to serve liverwurst sandwiches ;), but I think any small sandwiches would be perfect! Cucumber sandwiches would be a fine substitute. The whole movie revolved around snow, so it might be fun to make your favorite baked goodie (cake, cupcakes, sugar cookies) and decorate them with snowflakes sprinkles! And hot chocolate is never a bad idea, either ;).

Christmas With the Kranks. I think if you watch this and are trying to stick with a theme, you have to serve a honey baked ham! It’s too iconic to leave out! Plenty of food is served throughout this movie, but the ham would definitely be my pick;) .

The Nutcracker. My children watched the Nutcracker Ballet on YouTube for the first time the other night- I don’t think I will ever tire of the beautiful compositions- they are absolute masterpieces. In addition to pleasing your ears, you can please your taste buds with all the goodies! Nuts would be a fun snack, but of course you’d want to have lots of goodies to snack on as well! Gumdrops, chocolates, all the favorites!

I’d love to hear from our readers! What’s your favorite Christmas movie? What would you serve for a themed movie night? I’d love to hear your ideas!
