5 Super Quick Kitchen Organization Ideas

It is back to school time here at our house and my oldest child in now in school! I am officially a “back-to-school”, or maybe I should say “to school” mom. I can’t believe it! While I miss my daughter a ton while she is gone, those few hours I get while she is at school are priceless for really getting things done without being interrupted, bless her heart. I have all sorts of big hopes and dreams for things I hope to accomplish in the hours she is at school every week and one thing I really want to work on is organization.

One of the first places I want to start is the kitchen. Days are long and the last thing I want to do at dinner time is be hunting for some crucial item I need right this moment for dinner. I don’t need that extra cortisol at the end of the day. Here are a few quick organization tips for the kitchen that pack a lot of bang for their buck to make your world more efficient and dinner time more seamless.

1 - Store Flat Items Upright

Storing flat kitchen essentials such as cookie sheets and cutting boards typically takes up a great deal of valuable cupboard space. Yes, you can stack other items on top of them, but then you have to “un-stack” everything to get to what you need at the bottom.

So what is the solution? Store flat items upright in your cupboard or even in the space between your stove or refrigerator and the cupboard. You can do this perfectly by buying a metal file organizer. You can usually find these for really cheap at the dollar store.

2 - Lazy Susans to the Rescue!

Many people don’t automatically think of Lazy Susan storage when it comes to organization ideas. However, they are so perfect for a spice cupboard or a corner or odd-shaped cupboards that are typically hard to navigate.

I have several in my spice cupboard and I could not be happier with them. Most containers in your spice cupboard are round; and round containers and round Lazy Susans are a match made in heaven. You can find all sorts of options for a Lazy Susan on Amazon and they come in all sorts of sizes so I would give it a try if I were you. It almost seems as though I can scarcely think of what life was like before my spices were organized per Lazy Susan :)

3 - Mason Jars

Make use of Mason jars by storing things such as cupcake liners in them. These are so great because of course they are clear and glass so they are see through and you can quickly find what you are looking for.

I think the smallest Mason Jars would be fantastic for storing spices too!

4 - Cabinet Door Storage

The backside of a cabinet drawer is perfect place to find a little bit more space you might not have thought of. Here you can add a strip and hang things like your measuring cups and spoons.

I like how in this picture they also have common measurements and conversions handy by applying vinyl to the door. I also like to have my top 3-5 recipe cards I use the most often taped to the inside of a cupboard door. This way they are easily accessible and I know exactly where they are and I don’t have to dig through my recipes for these every time.

5 – Switch to a Clear Glass Storage Option

Clear glass storage containers are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. These are so great for your food because not only does it make it super easy to find whatever you’re looking for, they actually keep your food fresh for longer as well and are best if you have any bug problems, which I pray is something you are not dealing with!

I hope you enjoyed these quick tips to make your kitchen a little more organized to take some of the frustration of hunting for things out of your life. I think even incorporating one or two of these tips could bring a little extra peace to your everyday life :)
