Food Combinations That Just Work!

We've probably all tried, or at least heard of, some strange food combinations. A perfect example would be a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Granted, it's not really strange, but to some people it might be. I personally like to dip my potato chips in ketchup and I enjoy Cool Ranch flavored Doritos on my sandwich. I'm aware that both of those food combinations are a little odd, but trust me, they aren't as strange as some of the ones I found online. Take a list of the food combinations I found. Some are extremely strange and apparently tasty, while others are more common. Let me know which combinations you think sound amazing and which ones are appalling. Also let me know what you're favorite food combination is!

The not so weird:

  •   Pizza and Ranch: I personally like the taste of pizza and ranch. To me, this isn't a strange combination. It's especially good on pepperoni or chicken Alfredo pizza!
  •   Fries and Shakes: Come on, who hasn't tried this. It's like a classic. I'm not quite sure what it is about the sweet and salty flavors that work so well but I'm glad they do.
  •   Tortilla Chips and Cream Cheese: This pairing is a little different, but it makes sense. A lot of dips use cream cheese, so it's not THAT weird.
  •   Chili and Mayonnaise: Do you love mayonnaise but want a little spice in your life? Well just add a little chili powder to your mayonnaise. The spicy chili and the sweeter mayonnaise are great together.
  •   Melon and Prosciutto: Although I've never tried this food combination, I've heard that it's actually really good.
  •   Strawberries and Cheese: At first glance, you might be thinking "ew" but think about it, strawberries and cheese just go together. I'm sure you've had a salad with both cheese and strawberries and didn't think it was strange at all.
  •   Strawberries and Balsamic Vinegar: Continuing on with strawberries, it seems that everything goes well with strawberries! The sweet-tart combination is really tasty, or so I'm told.
  •   Watermelon and Salt or Pepper: This isn't that strange of a concept to me. We put salt and pepper on lots of things to bring out the flavor of things. It seems like the watermelon would be enhanced by the seasonings.
  •   Carrots and Sugar: This is not a strange combination, except for the fact that one is healthy and the other not so much, but have you ever had cooked carrots? Seriously adding a little sugar to your cooked carrots just makes them that much better.
  •   Bacon and Maple Syrup: I don't see anything strange with this combination at all. I always dip my bacon in syrup!

Now onto the weird:

  •   Dark Chocolate and Parmesan Cheese: Yes, you did just read that and no, I'm not crazy. A few different places listed this as one of the best food combinations. Apparently there is even a study that suggests that these two food items are a match made in heaven. The combination of the strange flavors brings out subtle things you wouldn't normally taste.
  •   Ketchup and Bananas: Um? I think I'll pass on this food combination. There are recipes out there that actually call for bananas and ketchup!!! Weird.
  •   Mushrooms and Apricots: I'm not a fan of mushrooms or apricots, so this just doesn't appeal to me at all. The sweet taste of the apricot is kind of like a glaze that compliments the savory taste of the mushroom.
  •   Peanut Butter and Ham: Who needs jam or jelly when you can have ham? I won't knock it until I try it, but that just sounds a little strange.
  •   Chocolate Cake and Pinto Beans: Why? That's all, just why?
  •   Ice cream and olive oil: Apparently in Italy this is a classic dessert.
  •   Bananas and Bacon: Because nothing says yummy like a mix of banana and bacon?in all seriousness though the saltiness of the bacon is absorbed into the banana to create a sweet and salty taste. I might give this one a try.
  •   Fruit Cake and Cheese: If fruit cake wasn't bad enough try it with some cheese. Maybe it'll actually make it taste better.
  •   Pizza and Mustard: I have no words to describe how I feel about this food combination.
