Rich Chocolate Frosting

Yield: 2 1/2 cups


1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
6 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened baking chocolate
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 cup milk
3 cups powdered sugar


1. Melt the butter and chocolate in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir until smooth, then transfer to a mixing bowl.
2. Gradually add the sugar while blending with an electric hand-held mixer on medium speed. Blend until the frosting is smooth and uniform in color.
3. Use immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Let the cold frosting come to room temperature, stir well, and use.
