Frosty Strawberry Squares

Ingredients

1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 egg whites
1 cup sugar
2 cups sliced fresh strawberries, or 1 (10-ounce) package frozen strawberries, partially thawed
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup heavy cream, whipped

Directions:

Stir together first 4 ingredients. Spread evenly in shallow pan. Bake 20 minutes in 350° oven, stirring occasionally. Sprinkle 2/3 of this crumbed mixture in a 9x13x2-inch baking pan. Combine egg whites, sugar, berries, lemon juice, and almond extract in a large bowl. Beat at high speed until stiff peaks form, about 10 minutes. Fold in whipped cream. Top with remaining crumbed mixture. Freeze 6 hours or overnight. Cut in squares. Top with fresh strawberries.

Variation: May also me made with frozen peaches.
