1 Rinse the berries and remove the hulls or stems. Cut the strawberries into halves or quarters if they are large.
2 In a medium saucepan, combine the berries, water, and sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries are soft and the juices are slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Taste and add more sugar, if necessary. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly. Serve or transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator up to 24 hours.
