Tomato-Fruit Chutney

Ingredients

2 teaspoons pickling spices
2 pounds pears peeled, cored and cut up
2 pounds peaches peeled, pitted and cut up
2 onions medium, cut up
1 red bell pepper medium, seeded and cut up
2 pounds tomatoes ripe, peeled and coarsely chopped
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup cider vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Directions:

Tie pickling spices in a small piece of cheesecloth.

Put pears, peaches, onions and red pepper through the coarse blade of a food grinder. In a large stainless steel pan place fruits and vegetables. Add sugar, vinegar, salt and spice bag. Bring to a boil reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until thick. Remove spice bag. Immediately ladle mixture into hot sterilized jars, leaving 1/2 -inch headspace. Wipe rims with a damp cloth. Seal with lids according to manufacturer's directions. Process in a boiling water bath for 5 minutes.
