Sprinkle fruitcake with 2 tablespoons brandy, rum or other liqueur before wrapping, or wrap the fruitcake in cheesecloth that has been soaked in brandy or rum, then overwrap with foil. Store in a cool place or refrigerate. If desired, sprinkle fruitcake or resoak cloth once or twice a month, rewrapping tightly. Glaze or decorate a fruitcake just before serving.
