Reuben Dogs

Ingredients

3/4 cup thousand island salad dressing or Sauce Louis
1 (16-ounce) can sauerkraut
8 hot dogs plump or bratwurst
4 ounces Swiss cheese cut into 8 (1/4 -inch) strips
8 hot dog buns or French rolls
butter or margarine

Directions:

Preheat broiler.

Prepare Sauce Louis if using set aside.

In a large skillet, place sauerkraut with liquid. Cut a lengthwise slit in center of each frankfurter or bratwurst without cutting all the way through. Insert cheese in center of each. Arrange on top of sauerkraut. Over medium heat, bring to a boil reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 10 minutes or until franks or brats are plump and cheese melts.

Meanwhile, split buns or rolls. Place on a baking sheet. Lightly spread cut edges with butter or margarine. Broil 6 inches from heat source until lightly toasted.

To assemble, place a frank or a brat in center of each bun or roll. Top with sauerkraut and about 2 tablespoons of the sauce or dressing.
