Macadamia Nut Bars

Ingredients

1 cup flour
1 (3 1/2-ounce) jar macadamia nut coarsely chopped
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar packed
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg white lightly beaten

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325°. Generously grease a baking sheet set aside.

In a medium bowl, stir flour, 1/4 cup of the nuts, baking powder and salt set aside.

In a large mixer bowl at medium speed, beat butter or margarine, brown sugar,egg yolk and vanilla until well blended, scraping bowl occasionally. At low speed, beat in flour mixture until well mixed, scraping bowl as needed.

Spoon dough onto center of baking sheet. Cover with waxed paper and, with a rolling pin, roll into a rectangle 1/4 inch thick. Remove waxed paper. Brush surface of dough with egg white and sprinkle with remaining nuts.

Bake for 22 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and, with a sharp knife, immediately cut into 1 1/2 x 1-inch bars. Cool bars on baking sheet for 5 minutes. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool completely.

Store in an airtight container in a cool place.
