Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch jelly roll pan.
In a large mixer bowl at high speed, beat sugar and butter until creamy. Add eggs and beat until blended. Add syrup, flour, nuts, vanilla, and baking powder and beat at low speed until blended. Spread in baking pan.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool pan on a wire rack. Frost before cutting into squares.
