Chocolate-Dipped Treats

Directions:

Foods that can be dipped are fresh strawberries, dried or candied fruit, nuts and pretzels. In a small saucepan over very low heat, melt 3 ounces chopped semisweet baking chocolate or 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon solid vegetable shortening stir until blended. Remove from heat and stir until slightly cooled. Dip part or all of the food into chocolate, allowing excess chocolate to drip off. Place on waxed paper. Chill in refrigerator until set. Store dipped berries in the refrigerator store other dipped foods in a cool place. To give as a gift, place foods in individual paper or foil candy cups in a shallow box or arrange in a doily-lined wicker tray. Wrap container with tissue paper.
