Ingredients

Equipment Needed:
Dry measuring cups
Metal spatula
Measuring spoons
13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan
Sifter
Rubber scraper
Liquid measuring cup
Fork
Toothpick
Wire rack
Small bowl
Metal spoon
2 cups flour
1 2/3 cups sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 1/3 cups water
1 cup mayonnaise
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (16-ounce) can white frosting

Directions:

Turn oven on to 350°.

Place flour, sugar, baking soda and baking powder in the baking pan. Sift cocoa powder into pan and stir all together with a rubber scraper.

Add water, mayonnaise, eggs and vanilla to the pan, scraping measuring cup well with a rubber scraper. Mix well with a fork until all the flour is moistened and the batter is smooth. Scrape bottom and sides of pan well with a rubber scraper.

Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Place 1/2 cup of the frosting in a small bowl. Stir the food color into the frosting with a metal spoon, a few drops at a time, until it is the color you want. With a metal spatula, spread it neatly in the upper left corner of the cake to make a 4 1/2 -inch square.

Arrange marshmallows in a circle on the blue frosting to make stars.

Neatly frost the rest of the cake top with white frosting. Arrange candy in seven even rows to make red stripes.
