Ingredients

Directions:

Radiation is recommended for some types of cancers.

If you'll be undergoing radiation treatments, you'll want to know these facts:

1. Fatigue is the most common side effect from radiotherapy and can last for months after treatment.

2. Other side effects from radiotherapy depend upon where the radiation is directed. If you have radiation in the stomach area, a common side effect is nausea. If you have radiation in the pelvic area, a common side effect is diarrhea.

3. A low-residue/low-fiber diet is recommended during abdominal and/or pelvic radiation. Ask your doctor for a list of low-residue and low-fiber foods. Also refer to 10-Foods for Special Diets for a list of these foods, and look through this cookbook for recipes that are flagged as "low fiber" and "low residue."

4. Eat foods that contain high concentrations of iron, and eat these foods with an orange or another food high in vitamin C so the iron in the food can be more easily absorbed. Many of the recipes in this cookbook are flagged as being high in iron. Also, ask your doctor if you need iron supplements to keep your iron stores high preventing anemia can help the radiation work better.
