April Fool's Day - Create Some Laughter in This Chaos!

Life has felt a little heavy lately, hasn’t it? Viruses, earthquakes, social distancing- it’s kind of a lot! Which is why it’s important to find joy in the simple things, to create fun amidst the chaos!

April Fool’s Day is a great day to add some laughter in your life. Chances are, you probably need something simple because you’re busy homeschooling your kids, trying to take care of your mental health, and grocery shopping isn’t the easiest thing to do these days! With that said, here are some EASY things you can throw together for April Fool’s Day!

Apple donuts- Slice apples so that they’re a ring. Spread some colored cream cheese across and top with sprinkles and you have little “donuts”- but healthier ;).

Worm in the apple- Poke a hole in an apple and stick a gummy worm in it. Doesn’t get much easier than that!

Food coloring- This can make anything a little more silly! Blue milk, green eggs, yellow mayo (maybe it could even be mistaken for mustard;) ),etc. So easy, but a simple way to bring a little laughter!

Edible potted plants- Chocolate pudding with crushed oreos on top is a classic “muddy” dessert- if you have a sprig of mint (or another herb) around, you can “plant” it and serve an edible potted plant for dessert!

Frozen cereal- we have tons of cereal on hand, and an easy way to “fool” your loved ones is to freeze some cereal and milk in a bowl (with a spoon placed where it would be normally), and freeze it overnight. Everyone will get a kick the next morning when they realize their typical bowl of cereal is actually frozen!

Jello juice- Along similar lines, a cup of red Jello with a straw sure looks a lot like a cup of juice! If you prep this the night before (including setting the straws), your kids will have no idea they’re not actually being served juice! (Until they try to take a drink, that is… ;) ).

Grilled cheese- Take some orange frosting and place them between two pieces of grilled pound cake- and you have the sweetest “grilled cheese” you could ever want!

Serve brown E’s- You know that brownie mix just sitting in your pantry? Bake it, and cut out a few E shapes, and you’ll be serving Brown E’s!!

Potato cookies- Did you know that mashed potatoes with a few black beans, broiled in the oven, look incredibly similar to chocolate chips cookies? And you probably have tons of potatoes and black beans on hand! Serve these up for a laugh, and then bake some cookies with your kids afterwards ;). We’re all looking for something else to do these days, right? ;)

Accessorize- Maybe making a completely new recipe sounds overwhelming right now- but you can easily overcome this with some candy eyes! You can add candy eyes to pretty much anything you make- and it will immediately be hilarious!

You don’t have to get super fancy in the kitchen to pull off a fun April Fool’s Day prank- and the giggles will definitely be worth any time you put in. Laughter is one of the best things you can do for your kids right now!
