Adorable Spring Treats to Whip Up With Kids!

Spring is in the air and I have been looking for some fun things to make with my kids to ring in beautiful spring the right way, so here are a few fun ideas for springy treats to make with your kiddos (and maybe you get a little creative and use up some of that leftover colorful Easter candy that’s probably going to find its way to the trash sooner rather than later!).

Here are a few backyard bugs treats you could make since your kids will start to notice seeing these kinds of bugs around again.

Let’s start with those nutty butterflies. Slice a few celery sticks, fill with peanut butter and top with some pretzels. Finish it off with a few candy eyes to make these flying bugs complete.

Who doesn’t love a sweet caterpillar? This crawling bug is simply made with a wood skewer, some grapes, two candy eyes and a little icing gel.

And of course, every back yard has a ladybug or two. A cracker topped with provolone cheese holds a cherry tomato with a black olive and a few candy eyes. Speckle the tomatoes with icing gel. Tip: If you don’t think the sweetness would complement this snack you could always use an edible black marker instead.

You can make this adorable flower fruit cup by following these instructions:

1. Using a melon baller, make watermelon balls.

2. Layer blackberries, grapes and watermelons on top.

3. Use flower cutter to cut out flowers from honeydew melon. Err on the side of thicker slices/flowers.

4. Using a skewer (or long toothpick), use the blunt side to skewer the flower and then stick it into the fruit. I used grapes to anchor the flower, since they were the firmest fruit in the cup.

5. Cut a blueberry in half. You don’t need anything to stick them on, just place them in the middles… the suction of the berry and the melon is enough to keep them on.

6. Cut a green grape in half and trim them so they have a leaf shape.

7. Place grape “leaves” at the base of the stem, using other fruit to prop them up.

I thought these butterfly cupcakes were so pretty and springy from Martha Stewart.

The butterflies are made from pretzels and decorator icing and have M&M candy heads and licorice antennas. They are adorable and very yummy and you can do the cupcakes in your favorite flavor and even be a bit creative on the icing flavors as well.

And last of all I LOVED these cute spring flower pretzel bites. Gotta love that salty sweet combo, am I right?!

Follow these instructions to make these adorable treats!

1. Preheat oven to 250°.

2. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.

3. Place pretzels on parchment paper.
Note: You can use as many pretzels as you want, as long as they are in a single layer, because they will not expand like cookies.

4. Place one white melting candy onto each pretzel.

5. Place pan in the oven for three minutes or until candy has melted.

6. Take pan out of the oven and place an M&M in the center of the melted chocolate on each pretzel.

7. Place 6 M&Ms of another color around the center M&M. These are the flower petals.

8. Place pan in the fridge for about 15 minutes or until chocolate is cool.

9. Enjoy this tasty spring snack!

I hope this gave you a few fun ideas to ring in springs with your kids or grandkids. Kids really find food fun when you get creative with it and bring it to life for them. It is a great way to get them to eat their fruits and veggies! :)
