Feel Your Best This Season!

My husband and I are getting ready to celebrate our 4th anniversary with a trip to Disneyland- and I am so excited! However, I am also one to get really motion sick… and I definitely don’t want that to be an issue as I’m trying to enjoy spending quality time with the love of my life! This is our first trip together as a couple outside of Utah, and I want to be able to enjoy every moment of it:).

My mother-in-law battles with several auto-immune diseases, and as a result she is often nauseous- but has learned a few tricks to help her cope. I have been looking at ways to keep nausea at bay, and realized this could be helpful to anyone- whether you get nauseous easily, are traveling for the holidays, have a disease that makes you constantly nauseous, are pregnant, or you overeat this holiday season and have a little regret;) . There’s nothing worse than getting together with loved ones, only to feel sick! So, here are some tips to keep nausea at bay and to feel your best this holiday season!

Dramamine. This is a great option for those long car rides or flights, or for times when you know that you will need to be fighting motion sickness for several hours…. Like at a theme park;). The downside is this drug does make you a little sleepy, but they have a less-drowsy version that helps with that.

Lemonheads. What? Yep, lemonheads. My mom’s friend said that when she had horrible morning sickness, she just sucked on lemonheads. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I never tried lemonheads, but I did try sucking on other hard candies- and it did help a little. I think something about the sucking motion helps, as well as raising your blood sugar level;). However, some people do swear by lemon, so maybe try lemonheads first;).

Ginger. This is what helps my mother-in-law be able to get out of bed every day. And it really does help to calm an unsettled stomach. You can get a huge bottle of gingerroot pills; but be careful- if you are prone to heartburn, these may not be the best option for you! You can also try gingersnaps, ginger ale, or sucking on ginger flavored candy.

Sleep. It’s much easier to feel gross if you are not getting enough sleep! Make sure that you are giving your body the rest it needs!

Eat! This may seem counter-intuitive, but sometimes your body feeling nauseous is actually a sign that you need to eat something. Obviously if you just ate a big meal, that’s probably not the cause; but if you haven’t eaten all day, trying eating some fruits, veggies and protein to combat the nausea.

Rootbeer. Something about the carbonation in rootbeer helps take away any motion sickness I may be experiencing. Again, this seems a little counter-intuitive, but it really works!

Drink Water. A little healthier than rootbeer;). If you haven’t been drinking enough through the day, this can also be a cause of nausea. Keep hydrated and drink lots of water!

Peppermint Tea. Peppermint is something else that has been known to calm crazy tummies, so if the ginger doesn’t help, try some peppermint!

Get Fresh Air. Sometimes, you just need a little more air in your lungs to feel better. And sometimes the temperature change can help too- it’s easier to feel nauseous when you feel hot and stuffy.

Digize Essential Oil. This one is a little more expensive, but really can be worth it. You can mix a couple drops with olive oil and rub it across your stomach (or on a child’s foot), or you can even just sniff it. Sometimes when I am nauseous, just taking a whiff of this stuff helps to keep it at bay.
