We Flew In Pizza From Chicago! Was It Worth It?

As we moved away from Iowa City to California five and a half years ago now, as the true millennial that I am, I knew that there would definitely be some food joints that I would miss dearly! I knew I was going to miss the world’s BEST mint chocolate chip ice cream from Whitey’s--which has two different sizes of chocolate chips in it, people! Now that is dedication! And I also knew that we would miss getting our favorite deep dish Chicago style pizza living only about an hour away from Chicago and moving to California. I’m telling you--this pizza has the world’s best yeasty pizza dough and the heartiest, freshest sauce there ever was.

Calm down there, Mary. You just threw out two of the “world’s best” in one paragraph! :\

Well, unfortunately with the passage of time the flavors started fading away from my memory of that beloved mint chocolate chip ice cream and yeasty crust and I did what any good person living in the 21st-century would do—I got on the internet and did my research. I researched the heck out of it to find a way to get my fix in California. Thankfully, there really is a way to get both of these to my house 2,000 miles away and the ice cream will still be frozen! Isn’t that just amazing? You gotta love living in the 21st century :)

You can order these online and have them shipped to you on dry ice. It isn’t cheap though--at least for the ice cream. To ship two (1.75 Quarts) containers of the ice cream it costs $46. I don’t think I could justify the cost of paying that--but I do think that is cool that it is an option. I think I’ll just wait until we go back and visit and I’ll let the memory of that get sweeter with time :)

However, as far as the pizza goes, I’m so happy to report that we did indeed get six pizzas for $115.99 and we’re already about to order our second round of them! If you break that down, that comes out to $19.33 per pie and that’s about how much you spend anytime you grab some take out for you and your sweetie. It has been well worth the cost for my husband and I to heat one of those up and have a side salad or some garlic bread and it definitely fills us both up! I believe it is a 9” inch pizza but it is a really deep pizza and is filling for two people.

We have saved it for our special date nights at home and we have created some fond memories of having our favorite pizza on six different occasions this year. And can I just say how cool that was to have a giant box show up at the door all the way form Northbrook, Illinois and it still had frozen pizza in it? That is just so cool to me.

If you have ever visited a city like Chicago, New York, Seattle, ect. and had some delicious food you’ve been craving--or perhaps you moved far away from your favorite restaurant--do a bit of research and you never know--they might offer something like this as well and you can have your fix again!

Have you ever tried Lou Malnati’s deep dish pizza from Chicago? Are you more of a deep dish pizza or New York style thin crust kind of person? You might even be one of those people who doesn’t even consider Chicago style pizza to be pizza--which is, of course, blasphemy! ;) Please share all your thoughts about pizza and its many forms, or should I say, “forms” in the comments down below.
