The Dessert Recipe You NEED

Have you ever come across something that was so tasty, you were afraid to finish it- because then it would be gone? It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does- that’s a recipe I definitely need.

This past Sunday, my family got together (my parents and siblings, married and all) to enjoy a few Christmas activities together. My mom made a new dessert- and let me tell you, it’s a real winner. My mom has made many desserts, and maybe this particular night I was just really craving these particular flavors, but her dessert HIT THE SPOT. I’m not usually a very slow eater (because I have 4 tiny kids and I have to eat when I can ;) ), but I savored this treat. I wanted it to last me as long as possible! And I wasn’t the only one dying over it. My husband literally took one bite, paused, looked up at me and said “You need this recipe. WE need this recipe”. He couldn’t get enough, as well as everyone else that tried it! (Even my sister, who is very calorie-conscious, couldn’t help but go for seconds when they were offered ;) ).

So let me tell you about this fabulous dessert! Cinnamon Cheese Roll-Ups. Cinnamon sugar is just the stuff dreams are made of- but when you pair it with good white bread, and a rich, cream cheese filling? Oh my goodness. Basically, you’re going to flatten slices of white bread, top them with the delicious filling roll them up, dip them in butter and cinnamon sugar, and bake til they are perfection. Being the ever-innovative chef that she is, my mom said she added a little more sugar than what the recipe called for. She was doubling the recipe, but instead of adding 2 cups of sugar, she added more like 3- and let me tell you, that wasn’t a bad thing ;). This recipe does require a little work, but you can do some of the prep beforehand (like rolling the bread and mixing the cinnamon) to help speed up the process when crunch time comes! They only take 20 minutes to bake, so that’s a definite plus as well.

My mom paired it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a caramel drizzle, and the flavor combination was PERFECTION. Plus, ice cream and warm desserts just make the world seem right, don’t they? If you try this dessert, definitely go the whole way and pair it with ice cream and caramel- you won’t be sorry :).

I think this would be a great dish for any holiday get-together! You could easily make the dish go farther by cutting each roll in half, or even thirds to create little bite-sized appetizers. You could also get creative with different drizzles (white chocolate, dark chocolate, caramel, raspberry sauce), or sprinkle them with powdered sugar for a festive presentation.

I also think it would be fun to pair this with french toast roll ups for breakfast (because let’s be honest- half of breakfast food IS dessert), or you could pair it with grilled cheese roll-ups for a fun and kid-friendly dinner! (I wouldn’t do this every night, but come on- you only live once ;) ).
