1 In a medium saucepan, cook the onion and garlic in the oil over medium heat until golden, 10 minutes. Add the Swiss chard and salt to taste. Cover and cook 15 minutes.
2 Add the chickpeas with some of their cooking liquid or water and salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook 30 minutes more. Stir occasionally and mash some of the chickpeas with the back of a spoon. Add a little more liquid if the mixture becomes too dry.
3 Let cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with a little extra-virgin olive oil if desired
