Give-Aways

I have spent the last 2 hours reading your newsletter and wonderful recipes. I have already printed a whole bunch I want to try. I love them because they are using ingredients one has on hand. I love that and just wanted you to know how much we appreciate all your hard work in putting together this newsletter. Thank you very much.

Is Christmas Coming Too Early?

I really enjoyed Patty's Thanks-Giving--or is it? article in this issue of the newsletter. It made me think about Thanksgiving and what I can do differently to make this one special; what my family and I can do to be more grateful.

It does seem to me like Christmas is coming earlier this year than in years past. But, is that such a bad thing? I'm not quite sure.

On the one hand, I'm almost done Christmas shopping for Kathy which feels GREAT. Usually I wait till...oh...about the 24th--and if you think I'm exaggerating, you would be wrong and Kathy will vouch for that. I'm not proud of it...I'm just a busy guy and I have a hard time finding the perfect gift for the perfect wife (there--I totally redeemed myself! Whew!).

Now that I'm mostly done, I feel like shouting "bring on the holidays! Let's have some fun!"

The other point to consider is that since more people are shopping on the Internet these days and we need to start earlier to allow time for shipping & handling.

It also seems like when you start early, you can plan ahead and take the time to find the lowest price for the thing that you want. Finally, in an effort to be more cost efficient, many retailers & e-tailers are employing the "just-in-time" inventory management system which often turns out to be an "almost-in-time" or a "not-quite-in-time" type of a system.

I haven't really noticed or minded the earlier start to Christmas this year. On the other hand, to the extent that this "early start" takes away from Thanksgiving, it is a bad thing. What do you think? Please share your thoughts. I love to read your comments.

Dan

P.S. Thanks for the feedback on the Noodles in the Chicken Soup question from last week!! I really appreciate it!!
