Give-Aways

I have spent the last 2 hours reading your newsletter and wonderful recipes. I have already printed a whole bunch I want to try. I love them because they are using ingredients one has on hand. I love that and just wanted you to know how much we appreciate all your hard work in putting together this newsletter. Thank you very much.

Cook'n Feature Request by Linda "Know-It-All"

Hi all,

I just checked out Kathy's Mint Cookies recipe with the Andes thin mint inside each cookie and drizzles with extra Andes. ANYWAY, I would like to have the option to specify what a recipe Makes OR how many people it Serves. Better yet, if it's something like cookies or appetizers, let us enter or clarify how many a recipe makes AND how many people it serves, with the amount or number per serving.

Thanks, Linda

Good thinking Linda...but before I go changing the program, please help me understand a bit more.

Currently, Cook'n has a serving size field which it uses to determine how many people a recipe serves. This field is used when recipe serving sizes are adjusted.

When more information is available, we typically enter it into the recipe Description field which is beneath the Recipe Name field. For example, a recipe may have a serving size of 6 and the following information in the Description field: "Makes 12 cookies."

So if I understand correctly, you want another field similar to the Servings field, like perhaps a Yield field (I know that sounds funny and you think I'm probably trying to crack a joke here...but I'm not...I'm a very, very serious guy). So where was I...oh yes, the Yield field.

You want to enter 12 into the Yield field. You probably want a Yield Descriptor field too...where you can enter the word "cookies" or "muffins" or "rolls" etc. Right?

That way, you could adjust a recipe by telling Cook'n how many people you want to serve OR by telling Cook'n how many "cookies" you want to make. Is this correct?

If so, that sounds like a pretty cool idea. You're such a know-it-all Linda!! :)
