Yummy Summer Drinks

There is nothing more refreshing than a cool drink on a hot day, especially when that drink is also full of fruit, and other summer ingredients. Enjoy!




Melon Lime Cooler

Recipe from 10 Fabulous Alcohol-Free Cocktails
Served at the Palmer Home Bed & Breakfast, Charleston, S.C.
Yield: 5 cups


4 1/2 cups cubed honeydew melon (about 1 small)
1 1/2 cups lime sherbet
2 Tbs. lime juice
fresh strawberries (optional)

1. Place melon cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet. Cover and freeze 30 minutes or until firm.
2. Position knife blade in food processor bowl. Add frozen melon, sherbet, and lime juice. Process until smooth.
3. Pour into glasses. Garnish with strawberries, if desired. Serve immediately.

Geisha Tea

1/4 oz. ginger syrup
1/2 oz. lemon juice
3/4 cup brewed or bottled green tea
1/2 oz. Sprite

In a tall cocktail glass, fill to top with ice. Add syrup, lemon juice and green tea. Top off with Sprite. Garnish with a lemon slice.

To make ginger syrup:
2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups water
1-inch nob fresh ginger

1. Put sugar, water and fresh ginger in a small saucepot.
2. Bring to a boil and let sit for 15 minutes.
3. Remove ginger and chill.

South of the Border Watermelon Iced Green Tea
Recipe from Green Tea: 50 Hot Drinks, Cool Quenchers and Sweet and Savory Treats (Harvard Common Pr ess: 2006) by Mary Lou Heiss.

3 cups chopped seedless watermelon
1 cup chilled green tea
1 cup chilled cream soda
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. light brown sugar
ice cubes

1. Put all the ingredients except ice cubes into a blender and blend on medium speed for two minutes.
2. Pour tea mixture into old-fashioned glasses filled with ice. Serve immediately.
