I have spent the last 2 hours reading your newsletter and wonderful recipes. I have already printed a whole bunch I want to try. I love them because they are using ingredients one has on hand. I love that and just wanted you to know how much we appreciate all your hard work in putting together this newsletter. Thank you very much.

Chinese 5 Spice Powder

Hello,

Have been looking for "Chinese 5 Spice Powder" everywhere in the grocery stores around our area: Acme, Shop Rite, Shop n Bag, Murphy's, Wegmans, Traders, etc.

What are these 5 spices? Perhaps they are already in my spice rack?

Thanks for a prompt reply.

Hi Ingrid,

If you want to buy the spice, you might have more success shopping online for it.

You can make your own, however, using this recipe:

5-Chinese Spice

1 tsp. ground Szechwan pepper
1 tsp. ground star anise
1-1/4 tsp. ground fennel seeds
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground white pepper

Combine ingredients and store in an airtight container. Store in a cool, dry place.

  Download this recipe.

Happy Cook'n,

Desi
