Give-Aways

I have spent the last 2 hours reading your newsletter and wonderful recipes. I have already printed a whole bunch I want to try. I love them because they are using ingredients one has on hand. I love that and just wanted you to know how much we appreciate all your hard work in putting together this newsletter. Thank you very much.

Crushing Tomatoes Neatly
by Alice Osborne

Most brands of canned crushed tomatoes contain a fair amount of tomato skin that can detract from (even ruin) certain dishes, so we tried canned whole tomatoes instead. But when we tried to crush them at home with our hands, the juice squirted all over the place and made a huge mess, no matter how deep a bowl we used.

Our solution to this was to put the whole tomatoes in a plastic bag (the type available in the grocery store produce department). Here's what you do: Put one hand into the bag, close it around your wrist with your other hand, and crush away, with no fear of making a mess. Smart, huh?
