Give-Aways

I have spent the last 2 hours reading your newsletter and wonderful recipes. I have already printed a whole bunch I want to try. I love them because they are using ingredients one has on hand. I love that and just wanted you to know how much we appreciate all your hard work in putting together this newsletter. Thank you very much.

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 cup slivered almonds

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and shortening; beat in sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Combine dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture along with nuts. Shape into three 9-in. x 1-1/2-in. rolls; wrap in waxed paper. Chill 2-3 days for spices to blend. Slice cookies 1/4 in. thick and place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 12-14 minutes or until set. Remove cookies to a wire rack to cool.
