Give-Aways

I have spent the last 2 hours reading your newsletter and wonderful recipes. I have already printed a whole bunch I want to try. I love them because they are using ingredients one has on hand. I love that and just wanted you to know how much we appreciate all your hard work in putting together this newsletter. Thank you very much.

No More Blood Sugar Blues
6 Smart and EASY Food Measuring Methods

by Alice Osborne

Anyone dealing with blood sugar issues and/or diabetes knows the importance of eating the right sized portions. To make sure your food servings are the right size, you can use measuring cups, measuring spoons or a food scale. Also, the Nutrition Facts label on food packages tells you how much of that food is in one serving. Or you can simplify and use the guide below. Me, I’m for the simple approach.

If you are too, you’ll appreciate this easy-to-remember and use guide to sensible serving sizes:

3 ounces: 1 serving of meat, chicken, turkey, or fish

1 cup: 1 serving of cooked vegetables, salads, casseroles or stews (such as chili with beans), milk

½ cup: 1 serving of fruit or fruit juice, starchy vegetables, such as potatoes, or corn, pinto beans and other dried beans, rice or noodles cereal

1 ounce: 1 serving of snack food, cheese (1 slice)

1 tablespoon: 1 serving of salad dressing, cream cheese

1 teaspoon: 1 serving of butter, oil, mayonnaise
