Use It or Toss It?

Hello,

I have a starter for the Friendship Fruitcake that I have had now for a few years? Is it still good to use? I noticed it has a lump of something in it, that's why I wonder if it is still good. Don't know what it is?

Hi B.,

I wouldn't risk eating/using it if it is that old. It would've needed to be fed continually to keep it going. I think if you open the bag, you'll smell a lot of alcohol by now. I would suggest tossing it out and starting again.
